Date and Chocolate Torte

Ingredients
- 250g (9oz) almonds or pecans
- 250g (9oz) dark chocolate*
- 250g (9oz) dates
- 6 egg whites
- 100g (3½oz) caster sugar

Method
- Pre-heat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4
- Place almonds or pecans and chocolate in blender or food processor and chop into chunky pieces
- Cut dates finely
- Beat egg whites until they hold stiff peaks, gradually adding caster sugar
- Fold in chocolate mixture and dates
- Line a 23cm tin with foil, grease well
- Pour into prepared tin and bake in prepared oven for 45 minutes
- Open oven door slightly and allow torte to cool in tin in the oven
- Turn onto a platter and refrigerate overnight.
