primary biliary cirrhosis

A rare long term liver disease where damage occurs to the small tubes in the liver that transport bile, a liquid used to assist in the digestion of fat and to transport waste products away from the body. As the tubes are damaged they become blocked and the bile builds up causing cirrhosis (scarring) to the liver.
