Food Alert joins as auditing partner for Gluten Free accreditation scheme

30 May 2024

We're delighted to introduce Food Alert as a new auditing partner for our Gluten Free accreditation scheme, a standard used across all catering environments including the hospitality, health, and education sectors. This partnership signifies our dedication to providing our community with the assurance they deserve, ensuring safe and enjoyable gluten free options.

With over 30 years of experience, Food Alert have established a reputation for food safety excellence and peace of mind in the foodservice and hospitality industry. From small, independently owned cafés to brands recognised nationally and internationally, Food Alert work across the UK to uphold the highest standards of food safety and health and safety.

“We’re delighted to collaborate with Coeliac UK and with our decades of experience in food safety and health & safety, we’re proud to contribute our expertise to the Gluten Free accreditation scheme. This partnership shows our commitment to making sure customers can enjoy safe gluten free options, creating inclusive dining experiences for everyone.”
David Bashford, Managing Director

To be accredited under the scheme, venues must meet the requirements of our ‘Gluten Free accreditation audit standard’ which was developed based on the findings of two Coeliac UK funded research projects in 2010 and 2012. This comprehensive audit process ensures that every accredited venue is committed to providing safe gluten free options to consumers.

Every organisation or location that wants to take part in the scheme must complete the audit process before they can be considered as a GF accredited venue, and an audit of the organisation must take place every year. For organisations with multiple sites, a selection of sites are audited regularly to ensure ongoing compliance. This continuous review process captures any changes throughout the year, maintaining the integrity of our accreditation standards. This can be delivered independently from any other food safety auditing arrangements or alongside an existing food safety arrangement. This audit is available from our service providers NSF and Food Alert.

With Food Alert on board, we're confident in our ability to uphold the integrity of the Gluten Free accreditation scheme and provide consumers with the assurance that they can enjoy safe gluten free options.

“I use the GF accreditation scheme to look at new places to eat. It gives me confidence that the restaurant takes cross contamination seriously. Those with coeliac disease and gluten intolerance also have friends and relatives and they eat where we feel happy eating!”
Alison, Coeliac UK member
