Welcome to your local Coeliac Group
Coeliac UK is the UK’s leading charity, helping and advising people with the disease, conducting research and representing Coeliacs in discussions with the NHS regarding policy and treatment.
Part of the support offered to sufferers, is a network of local groups, run by Volunteers, who can support you.
We are looking to run a virtual meeting (using Zoom) for people who are newly diagnosed, or have family members who are newly diagnosed, giving them an opportunity to ask questions and find support. In time we intend to extend this further, but for now we are looking at newly diagnosed.
These will be public meetings, so please consider the level of personal information you wish to share, with the group. We will keep the meetings small, around ten participants’, but don’t worry as we will be running more than one event.
We have all been through the experience of being told we have the disease and then told what we cannot eat. We have all searched the supermarket for the gluten free section and thought – “Is that it!” We have all sat in the restaurant and thought “what can I eat”?
It can be quite traumatic, following the diagnosis, but it does get better!
We cannot give you individual health advice, that’s what the NHS and the Coeliac UK helpline is for (Coeliac UK can be contacted on 0333 332 2033) but we can talk from experience and give tips on how we cope. We can make local recommendations as to restaurants and how to eat as safely as possible in a restaurant.
If you are interested in joining an informal, Zoom, meeting please let us know – northhampshire@coeliac.org.uk
We look forward to meeting with you.
