Worcestershire CCGs to stop prescribing gluten free food from this week

18 September 2017

As an update to our news item in July, from this week the three Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Groups (made up of NHS Redditch and Bromsgrove CCG, NHS South Worcestershire CCG and NHS Wyre Forest CCG) will no longer provide any gluten free food on prescription.

As we said in July when the CCGs announced the decision, we are extremely concerned about the impact this will have on patients with coeliac disease in the region and their ability to stick with the diet, particularly those on low incomes or with mobility issues.

We wish to reiterate that your GP is responsible for your medical care and ensuring your medical needs are met, so if you are concerned that this change will impact on your ability to manage your gluten free diet and your coeliac disease, you should see your GP for advice.
