Vale of York CCG decision on gluten free prescribing

17 April 2018

We are pleased to let you know that the Vale of York CCG has decided to adopt the guidance from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). Therefore, gluten free bread and flour mixes will continue to be available on prescription in the Vale of York area.

We are reassured that the Vale of York CCG have listened to the concerns put forward by Coeliac UK, people with coeliac disease and healthcare professionals. The decision recognises the important role of gluten free staples in managing a gluten free diet and the need for support due to the high cost and variable availability of these foods.

We are continuing to campaign to protect access to gluten free food on prescription across the UK and will keep you updated in Crossed Grain magazine, our monthly newsletter and on our website.
