The UK National Screening Committee (NSC) has looked at evidence in order to provide advice about screening for coeliac disease in adults. Screening identifies apparently healthy people who may be at greater risk of a particular disease.

The review started in March 2013 and we worked together with our Health Advisory Council (HAC) to submit comments to the NSC’s consultation. We support the need for a greater emphasis and better resourcing to identify those with coeliac disease in Primary Care, as well as the need for further research to inform and progress the screening agenda.

The NSC has considered the feedback from all stakeholders to make their policy recommendation which was issued in May 2014. The NSC states that systematic population screening is currently not recommended. This policy is now available on their website alongside the next date of their review planned for 2017/2018.
