Opposing gluten-free prescribing restrictions in Ipswich and Suffolk
26 February 2016
On 7 January, we announced that Ipswich and East Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and West Suffolk CCG had made the decision to introduce restrictive policies on the prescribing of gluten-free food.
We have now been made aware that some GP surgeries in the Ipswich and Suffolk area have been informed that the decision made by the Suffolk CCGs to stop prescribing gluten-free food for adults is supported by Coeliac UK. This is certainly not the case and we have been actively opposing the decision made by West Suffolk and Ipswich and East Suffolk CCGs. We have now written to all GP surgeries in the area to clarify that we do not support the recent policy change and have provided further information on why gluten-free food on prescription is so important.
