New allergen labelling advice published by the Food Standards Agency

New changes are on the horizon which will mean changes to the way foods are labelled.

The European Commission has published the Food Information Regulation (FIR) to simplify European food labelling. The regulation combines rules on food and nutrition labelling into a single EU regulation.

The FIR will be introduced in December 2014 and will mean changes to how packaged foods and food sold by caterers will be labelled.

To help consumers understand these changes, the Food Standards Agency has reissued its advice for food allergic consumers in collaboration with Coeliac UK along with Allergy UK, the Anaphylaxis Campaign, British Dietetic Association, British Retail Consortium, British Nutrition Foundation and the Food and Drink Federation.
