Join us on our Journey to a Cure
22 February 2022
When we launched the Coeliac UK Research Fund in 2018, there was a tremendous response from our community – thank you. Your contributions since then have made a real difference and we have already been able to invest over £1 million into key research projects.
The pandemic meant that we had to halt our projects, but now, and with new approaches to disease that have been learned in recent times, we are gathering the experts in the field to devise research projects to help us achieve our goal of a cure.
Coeliac UK is the largest single funder of research into coeliac disease in the UK, committing around £3 million to research between 2005 and the launch of the Fund. Working with the coeliac community and healthcare professionals, we have already identified a list of ten top research priorities. These are the unanswered questions that committed research funding may solve – helping us to continue our research journey:
Coeliac disease can develop at any age – what are the triggers?
Why do some family members with the associated genes for coeliac disease develop the condition, but not others?
How and why does it link to other autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes?
Find out more about our work and stories of our community here.
We are asking you and everyone in our community for help to give the Coeliac UK Research Fund the boost it needs. The more funding we have, the more research we’ll be able to support – and the greater the chance of taking the next vital steps towards a cure for coeliac disease.
