Great Yarmouth and Waveney CCG to stop GF prescribing

30 March 2016

We've learnt of plans by Great Yarmouth and Waveney CCG to stop prescribing gluten-free items to people with coeliac disease in the area, and we're extremely disappointed that the CCG has failed to consult with Coeliac UK or with patients with coeliac disease in the region before making this decision.

We'll be making strong representations to the CCG on the issue and will be seeking the support of clinicians in the area. We'll be asking the CCG what alternatives were considered and will ask about the rationale behind the decision and how the impact of the change on the long term health of people with coeliac disease will be monitored.

We have written to all Members in the affected area with information on how to oppose the cuts. Get involved by:

  • Contacting the local HealthWatch at by emailing or calling on 01449 703949
  • Contacting Great Yarmouth and Waveney CCG by writing to Great Yarmouth and Waveney CCG, HealthEast, Beccles House, 1 Common Lane North, Beccles, Suffolk, NR34 9BN, emailing  or calling on 01502 719500
  • Writing to your local MP - we have a sample letter on our website which you can use, or you can write your own letter explaining how the changes will affect you
  • Writing to the Suffolk Health and Wellbeing Board, Public Health Suffolk, Endeavour House, 8 Russell Road, Ipswich IP1 2BX.  We have a sample letter on our website.

We'll continue to provide updates as the situation progresses on our website, in Crossed Grain magazine and through electronic newsletters.
