Daily Mail article on gluten-free prescriptions

17 August 2015

It is very disappointing that the Daily Mail has chosen to present a serious issue in this way on today’s front page. The truth is that the NHS spends £27m on gluten-free food for people with coeliac disease, such as bread and flour, to support this life long condition which can only be treated by a strict gluten-free diet. This equates to £180 per patient. We will be responding to the article.

Our Chief Executive Sarah Sleet has been on BBC Radio Berkshire and BBC Radio 5 Live this morning to talk about the article and the claims made. Listen again from 2 hours 46 minutes in on BBC Radio Berkshire. We will share the BBC Radio 5 Live listen again link when it is made available.
