Coeliac UK strongly opposing proposed gluten-free prescribing cuts in Notts

As three Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) across Nottinghamshire are proposing cuts to gluten-free prescriptions, we are continuing our support of staple gluten-free items remaining on prescription.

Coeliac UK considers such items a vital element of support for those diagnosed with coeliac disease and believe cutting them could result in the NHS spending more money in the long run.

Our Chief Executive, Sarah Sleet, said: “The decision to remove gluten-free prescription services is being based on budgets rather than patient need. The provision of gluten-free staple food on prescription is a vital element of the support offered to these patients by the NHS and it is essential to prevent long term damage to health.”

Currently three CCGs across Nottinghamshire have consultations running until 30 October 2015. These are: Nottingham North & East, Nottingham West, and Rushcliffe CCGs. These consultation papers can be found at:
