Coeliac UK is engaged in discussions with Quorn Foods on their product recall of Quorn Gluten Free Burgers. Quorn Gluten Free Burgers are licensed by the charity and we want to alert consumers to the recall notice that Quorn Foods has released today.

The charity has had initial discussions with Quorn Foods and is giving them time for investigation. We are doing everything we can to get a clear understanding of the extent of this incident, to be able to share information with consumers. For people with coeliac disease this is a food safety issue that we are taking very seriously and we will continue to be in active dialogue with Quorn Foods and will pursue our own separate investigation.

Our understanding is that the product recall affects 6,496 packs of frozen Quorn Gluten Free Burgers 227g (bar code: 5019503027006; Date code: 708049 BBE 30-NOV-19) from UK supermarkets Waitrose and Morrisons as this batch of the product has been found to contain gluten, which is not declared on the packaging. No other batch codes are known to be affected.

Our advice to consumers

Customers with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance/allergy are advised not to consume the product with Date code: 708049 BBE 30-NOV 19, and should return it to the retailer it was purchased from for a full refund.

Allergen alert: Quorn recalls a batch of its 2 Gluten Free Burgers packs because of undeclared gluten

Quorn is recalling packs of 2 Gluten Free Burgers because they contain undeclared gluten which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease or an allergy or intolerance to gluten.

No other Quorn products are known to be affected

Action taken by the company:

Quorn is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, who will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point of sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
