Calderdale CCG decision on gluten free prescribing
16 July 2018
We are pleased to let you know that Calderdale clinical commissioning group (CCG) has decided to adopt the guidance from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), therefore gluten free bread and flour mixes will continue to be available in the Calderdale area.
This decision has been made following a consultation which was held last year on the proposal to stop the prescribing of gluten free foods. Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to the consultation. We are reassured that the CCG have listened to the concerns put forward by Coeliac UK, people with coeliac disease and healthcare professionals. The decision recognises the important role of gluten free staples in managing a gluten free diet and the need for support due to the high cost and variable availability of these foods.
We are continuing to campaign to protect access to gluten free food on prescription across the UK and will keep you updated in Crossed Grain magazine, our monthly newsletter and on our website.
