BBC2's Great British Bake Off
9 October 2013
The programme, watched by 5.9million viewers, featured alternative grains including gluten-free.
You can catch Tuesday night’s BBC’s Great British Bake Off on iPlayer.
The episode explored flours other than standard wheat flour, including some gluten-free. The first challenge for the contestants was to make a loaf of bread using unconventional grains. We were delighted to see that one baker did make a purely gluten-free loaf using potato, tapioca and rice flour. The technical challenge was a Mary Berry meringue dessert which was entirely gluten-free.
It was wonderful to see gluten-free being mentioned on such a popular prime time programme which will no doubt help raise the profile and awareness of gluten-free. We will continue to liaise with the producers to encourage them to consider another gluten-free element in future series.
