'Investigation of Genetic Susceptibility in Coeliac Disease'

A major research project led by Professor David van Heel is looking for inherited factors which might explain why some people have coeliac disease. The team has just completed a first search of whole human DNA 'book' for inherited factors that might differ in people with coeliac disease compared to those without the condition.

This study is funded by the charities Coeliac UK and the Wellcome Trust.

Now the project needs to confirm these findings in a much larger group of people. The more people with coeliac disease who take part the better.

If you are interested in taking part, please contact the research team using the contact details below. They will ask you to read an information sheet, sign a consent form and provide a small sample of spit (saliva).

You will be sent this by post, with a pre-paid envelope for return. You will also be invited to suggest an unrelated person without coeliac disease (e.g. partner or a friend) who the team could write to and invite to also provide a control spit (saliva) sample.
